Guest Post: Would It Be All That You Need?

I'm busy getting ready for JBF (Just Between Friends), so Lindy of FrugalFriendsNetwork.com was kind enough to send me this post for y'all. I hope you enjoy it; I did. -- Jenny

Would It Be All That You Need?

Last night as I was taking a final look at facebook, I came across a viral post that caught my attention. Normally, I just skim by these re-posts, barely glancing at them. Perhaps it was the blue background surrounding this one that made me read it, or the name of the sender or the fact that it had received a lot of comments, but I think it was a little something more.

As I laid my head down on the pillow to go to sleep, the message was on my mind and when I woke up this morning it was one of the first things I thought about. The message was just simply...”What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?”

As someone who prays first thing in the morning and last thing at night, and oftentimes in-between, I know I can confidently answer that my family and my home would still be with me. I always thank God for these things, but otherwise I tend to be more general in my thanksgiving (“thank you for all of my many blessings”). I wonder just what God would consider to be my blessings?

Sunday Reflections: That Sneaky Devil

I was talking to a friend yesterday who has two little ones, a toddler and a baby. She was telling me about how difficult it is to get out of the house on Sunday morning and get to church. Wednesdays were also difficult for her. Her theory is that the devil doesn't want us to go to church and be built up, so those days are particularly difficult.

I've experienced the same sort of thing. As some of you may know, if you know me personally, or have been reading my blog, I have some joint issues. It always seems like my "flare ups" happen Saturday night or Sunday morning and I have been missing church more often than I'd like. Usually, the rest of my week is just as terrible, and it's hard to break out of the rut.

Of course, the times I HAVE powered through and gone to church anyway, I always leave feeling edified and renewed. The rest of my week is usually much more positive when I attend church with other believers. It's not just showing up in a building that does it, either. It's worshipping God, connecting with other believers, and going deeper into my relationship with Jesus. As my pastor says, the church is not the building, the church is the people who fill it.

So what can we do about this situation and the attacks the devil (and yes, I do believe there is an actual being called Satan, Lucifer, the Prince of Light, etc.)?

I'm no expert myself, but I found some great sites to help:

Have you discovered a scripture, or a way to conquer Satan? Please share it in the comments below.

Guest Post: The Dust of Your Rabbi

My friend Dominique, from voiceBoks asked me to guest post for her. The topic is "The Dust of Your Rabbi," discussing how Christian parents should follow closely to Jesus if they want their children to follow, too. Check it out and let her know I sent you!

Christian Freebie -- Free Francis Chan Book, Your Choice!

David C Cook is offering a choice of several great Christian books by Francis Chan: Crazy Love, Forgotten God, The Big Red Tractor, Halfway Herbert, or Ronnie Wilson’s Gift. I've heard fabulous things about Crazy Love, so I would recommend that if you're not sure which to pick. Some people have also said Forgotten God was very good.

Thanks, Christian Clippers!
